Description

Indulge in this delightful Berry French Toast Casserole, a perfect dish for breakfast or brunch gatherings. This easy-to-make casserole features a medley of fresh berries nestled between layers of soft French bread cubes soaked in a sweet custard mixture, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

French Toast Casserole:

  • 1 loaf (about 14 oz) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 ½ cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 ½ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ⅓ cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing the dish)

Optional Topping:

  • powdered sugar
  • whipped cream
  • extra berries

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter. Layer half of the bread cubes and berries in the dish.
  2. Combine the Custard: Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Pour over the bread and berries.
  3. Chill and Bake: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Bake at 350°F, then uncover and bake until set.
  4. Serve: Let cool slightly, then top with powdered sugar or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • Experiment with different berry combinations for variety.
  • Sprinkle brown sugar for extra sweetness.
  • Stale bread absorbs the custard well.
