Description
Tender beef tips in a savory, rich brown gravy made with onions, garlic, and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. This comforting classic is perfect for a family meal or cozy weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef stew meat (cubed chuck roast or sirloin)
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Pat beef tips dry and season with salt and pepper. Heat butter in a skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add beef in batches and sear until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté diced onion for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and sauté for another minute.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and garlic to make a roux. Stir well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Return the seared beef to the skillet, bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cover. Cook for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally, until beef is tender and gravy is thickened.
- Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles to soak up the rich gravy.
- To make this in a slow cooker, sear the beef and follow the recipe, then cook on low for 6-7 hours in the slow cooker until the beef is tender.
- For gluten-free options, substitute flour with a gluten-free all-purpose blend or use cornstarch to thicken the gravy.
