Description

Tender beef tips in a savory, rich brown gravy made with onions, garlic, and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. This comforting classic is perfect for a family meal or cozy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef stew meat (cubed chuck roast or sirloin)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat beef tips dry and season with salt and pepper. Heat butter in a skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add beef in batches and sear until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté diced onion for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and sauté for another minute.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the onions and garlic to make a roux. Stir well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  5. Return the seared beef to the skillet, bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cover. Cook for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally, until beef is tender and gravy is thickened.
  6. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles to soak up the rich gravy.
  • To make this in a slow cooker, sear the beef and follow the recipe, then cook on low for 6-7 hours in the slow cooker until the beef is tender.
  • For gluten-free options, substitute flour with a gluten-free all-purpose blend or use cornstarch to thicken the gravy.
