Description

A fresh and vibrant Balsamic Strawberry Caprese salad featuring sweet strawberries, creamy mozzarella, aromatic basil, and a tangy balsamic glaze, perfect for a light appetizer or side dish in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Salad Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves

Dressings and Seasonings

  • 1/4 cup balsamic glaze
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tbsp honey for extra sweetness

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Start by hulling and slicing the strawberries into thin rounds. If using mozzarella balls, leave them whole or halve if they are large to better balance with the strawberries.
  2. Layer the Salad: On a serving platter, arrange the sliced strawberries and mozzarella balls alternately. Tuck whole fresh basil leaves in between the layers for a visually appealing presentation and fresh herbal flavor.
  3. Drizzle with Balsamic: Generously drizzle the balsamic glaze evenly over the strawberries and mozzarella. For those who prefer a slightly sweeter taste, add a drizzle of honey at this stage for an extra layer of sweetness.
  4. Add Olive Oil: Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the top to add richness and depth to the salad’s flavor profile.
  5. Season: Sprinkle with salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste, enhancing and balancing all the flavors in the salad.
  6. Serve & Enjoy: This salad can be served immediately or chilled for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld beautifully. It’s perfect as a fresh appetizer, light lunch, or side dish.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best natural sweetness and flavor.
  • Balsamic glaze is different from balsamic vinegar – it’s thicker and sweeter, perfect for drizzling.
  • For a vegan version, substitute mozzarella with a plant-based cheese alternative.
  • Chilling the salad slightly before serving enhances the melding of flavors but is optional.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to your preference, but don’t skip them as they elevate the taste.
