Description
A fresh and vibrant Balsamic Strawberry Caprese salad featuring sweet strawberries, creamy mozzarella, aromatic basil, and a tangy balsamic glaze, perfect for a light appetizer or side dish in just 15 minutes.
Ingredients
Salad Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
Dressings and Seasonings
- 1/4 cup balsamic glaze
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 tbsp honey for extra sweetness
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Start by hulling and slicing the strawberries into thin rounds. If using mozzarella balls, leave them whole or halve if they are large to better balance with the strawberries.
- Layer the Salad: On a serving platter, arrange the sliced strawberries and mozzarella balls alternately. Tuck whole fresh basil leaves in between the layers for a visually appealing presentation and fresh herbal flavor.
- Drizzle with Balsamic: Generously drizzle the balsamic glaze evenly over the strawberries and mozzarella. For those who prefer a slightly sweeter taste, add a drizzle of honey at this stage for an extra layer of sweetness.
- Add Olive Oil: Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the top to add richness and depth to the salad’s flavor profile.
- Season: Sprinkle with salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste, enhancing and balancing all the flavors in the salad.
- Serve & Enjoy: This salad can be served immediately or chilled for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld beautifully. It’s perfect as a fresh appetizer, light lunch, or side dish.
Notes
- Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best natural sweetness and flavor.
- Balsamic glaze is different from balsamic vinegar – it’s thicker and sweeter, perfect for drizzling.
- For a vegan version, substitute mozzarella with a plant-based cheese alternative.
- Chilling the salad slightly before serving enhances the melding of flavors but is optional.
- Adjust salt and pepper to your preference, but don’t skip them as they elevate the taste.
