Description

Baked Yogurt Delight is a creamy, smooth dessert that combines Greek yogurt, sweetened condensed milk, and cream, baked gently in a water bath for a luscious, slightly jiggly texture. Inspired by Indian Bhapa Doi and Middle Eastern baked yogurt traditions, this easy-to-make treat can be topped with fresh fruit, honey, or nuts for a flavorful finish.

Ingredients

Yogurt Mixture

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Toppings (Optional)

  • Fresh fruit
  • Honey
  • Chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking the yogurt mixture evenly.
  2. Mix the ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream (or milk), and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy, ensuring all components are well combined.
  3. Prepare the baking setup: Pour the yogurt mixture into small ramekins or a single baking dish. Place the ramekins inside a larger baking pan and carefully pour hot water into the larger pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins, creating a gentle water bath.
  4. Bake: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. The yogurt should be just set around the edges and slightly jiggly in the center, indicating perfect doneness without overcooking.
  5. Cool and chill: Remove the ramekins from the oven and allow them to cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to fully set and develop the flavors.
  6. Add toppings and serve: Before serving, enhance the dessert with fresh fruit, a drizzle of honey, or a sprinkle of chopped nuts for added texture and sweetness, if desired.

Notes

  • This dessert is similar to Indian “Bhapa Doi” or Middle Eastern-style baked yogurt.
  • You can infuse the yogurt mixture with rose water, cardamom, or lemon zest for unique flavor variations.
  • Use a water bath to ensure gentle, even cooking and prevent cracking or curdling.
  • Chilling the dessert is essential for the texture to fully set and flavors to meld.
