Description

A simple and healthy baked tilapia recipe featuring fresh tilapia fillets seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic powder, and oregano, then baked to tender perfection. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, served alongside vegetables or rice.

Ingredients

Tilapia Fillets

  • 4 fresh tilapia fillets (about 6 oz each)

Seasonings & Marinade

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Tilapia: Rinse the tilapia fillets under cold water to clean them, then pat dry thoroughly with paper towels. Arrange the fillets evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Season Fillets: Drizzle the olive oil evenly over the tilapia fillets, then squeeze the fresh lemon juice on top. Sprinkle garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper evenly across all the fillets to ensure balanced flavor.
  4. Bake Fish: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake the fish for 15-20 minutes. Check for doneness by ensuring the fish flakes easily with a fork and is opaque throughout.
  5. Serve: Optionally add a splash of fresh lemon juice right before serving. Pair the baked tilapia with steamed vegetables or rice for a wholesome meal.

Notes

  • Make sure to not overcook the fish to keep it moist and flaky.
  • For extra flavor, you can add fresh herbs like parsley or dill before baking.
  • Use nonstick spray or line the baking dish with parchment paper to prevent fish from sticking.
  • If fresh lemon is unavailable, bottled lemon juice may be used, though freshness affects flavor.
  • Tilapia fillets can vary in size; cooking time may need slight adjustment.
