Description

These Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants are a quick and flavorful treat that combine flaky, buttery croissants with savory ham and melty cheese. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even a comforting snack, they come together with just a few ingredients and are baked until golden. Serve them warm for a delicious, fuss-free meal everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Croissants

  • 4 large croissants (preferably day-old or bakery-style)

Filling

  • 8 slices deli ham (about 150g)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese (or Gruyère, about 80g)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)

Topping

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easy.
  2. Prepare the Croissants: Using a sharp serrated knife, carefully slice the croissants in half horizontally, making sure not to cut all the way through, so they open like a book but hinge at the back.
  3. Assemble the Filling: Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard inside each croissant, if using. Layer 2 slices of ham and 1 slice of cheese inside each croissant, folding to fit if necessary.
  4. Top the Croissants: Close the filled croissants and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with poppy seeds if desired for extra flavor and texture.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12–15 minutes, until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for 2–3 minutes before serving. Enjoy while warm and gooey.

Notes

  • Substitute Swiss or Gruyère with cheddar or mozzarella for a different flavor.
  • If desired, add a slice of tomato or a few spinach leaves for freshness.
  • Day-old croissants hold up better during baking as they are slightly firmer.
  • Easily double or halve the recipe based on the number of servings needed.
