Description

These Baked French Dip Biscuits are a delightful twist on the classic French dip sandwich, featuring flaky biscuit cups filled with tender roast beef and melted provolone cheese. Served with a rich, homemade au jus dipping sauce, this appetizer is perfect for gatherings or a savory snack.

Ingredients

Biscuit Cups

  • 1 can (8-count) refrigerated flaky biscuits
  • 1/2 pound deli roast beef (thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (halved)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Au Jus Dipping Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Biscuit Cups: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a muffin tin or line with parchment paper. Separate the biscuit dough and press each round into a 4-inch circle. Line each muffin cup with a biscuit round, pressing it into the bottom and up the sides to form a cup.
  2. Fill the Cups: Place a few slices of thinly sliced roast beef inside each biscuit cup, then add a half slice of provolone cheese on top. Fold the edges of the dough slightly over the filling to partially cover it.
  3. Apply Butter Topping: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with garlic powder and dried parsley. Brush this mixture over the tops of each biscuit cup to enhance flavor and color.
  4. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and fully cooked through.
  5. Make Au Jus Sauce: While the biscuits bake, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour to form a roux and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  6. Serve: Remove the baked French dip biscuit cups from the oven and serve warm. Accompany them with the au jus dipping sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For convenience, pre-made au jus packets can be used instead of making the sauce from scratch.
  • For a crisper biscuit bottom, bake in a metal muffin pan instead of using parchment liners.
  • Avoid overfilling the biscuit cups with roast beef to prevent dough edges from becoming soggy.
