Description

These Baked Cheese Buns are soft, fluffy, and packed with melted cheese inside. Perfectly golden on the outside and cheesy on the inside, these buns make a great snack or side for any meal. The recipe uses simple pantry ingredients and requires just over half an hour total, including rising and baking time.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Instant Yeast
  • 3/4 cup Warm Water (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

Filling

  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, signaling the yeast is active.
  2. Mix dough: Gradually add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture while stirring, mixing until a smooth dough starts to form.
  3. Knead dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 8 minutes until the dough becomes elastic and smooth.
  4. First rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape buns: Punch down the risen dough gently, divide it into small portions, and shape each into a ball. Place these dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Add cheese and bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Optionally, press each dough ball slightly and place some shredded cheese inside or on top. Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until they turn golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • Use warm water around 110°F to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • For best results, use freshly shredded cheese rather than pre-shredded to avoid additives.
  • Let the buns cool on a wire rack before serving to prevent sogginess.
  • These buns can be frozen after baking and reheated in the oven for freshness.
  • Experiment with different cheeses such as gouda, pepper jack, or parmesan for varied flavors.
