Description

A hearty, cheesy casserole that combines the flavors of a classic bacon cheeseburger with crispy tater tots, making it a perfect comfort food meal for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
  • Pickle slices (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook ground beef and diced onion until browned and cooked through. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Drain any excess grease, then stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and cream of mushroom soup until combined.
  5. Return bacon to the skillet and stir in half the shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Top with an even layer of frozen tater tots and sprinkle with remaining cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes or until the tots are golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Top with pickle slices if desired.

Notes

  • For crispier tater tots, broil the casserole for the last 3–5 minutes.
  • Substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken or a homemade white sauce if preferred.
  • Use precooked bacon or real bacon bits for quicker prep.
  • Add jalapeños or hot sauce for a spicy kick, or mix in veggies like bell peppers or peas.
