Description
A delightful and elegant Asparagus and Goat Cheese Tart featuring flaky puff pastry, fresh asparagus spears, and creamy goat cheese enveloped in a rich egg and cream custard. Perfect as a savory brunch dish, light lunch, or appetizer, this tart is effortless to prepare and bakes to golden perfection with a tender yet crisp texture.
Ingredients
Pastry:
- 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry
Filling:
- 1 bunch fresh asparagus
- 4 oz creamy goat cheese
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to about 1/8 inch thickness. Carefully transfer it to a greased tart pan, pressing down to fit and trimming any excess dough from the edges.
- Mix the filling: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the 3 large eggs, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, salt, and pepper until fully combined. Crumble the 4 oz of creamy goat cheese into the mixture and stir gently to evenly distribute.
- Assemble the tart: Arrange the fresh asparagus spears evenly over the puff pastry base in the tart pan. Pour the egg, cream, and goat cheese mixture on top, ensuring it spreads evenly to coat the asparagus.
- Bake to perfection: Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the custard is set and the top is a golden brown color. Once done, remove from the oven and allow the tart to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Trim the tough ends off the asparagus before arranging on the tart.
- For added flavor, sprinkle fresh herbs like thyme, chives, or tarragon into the egg mixture or on top before baking.
- To avoid a soggy crust, you can blind bake the puff pastry for 5-7 minutes before adding the filling.
- This tart can be served warm or at room temperature, making it ideal for entertaining.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator wrapped tightly and consume within 2 days.
