Description

Delicious and flaky apple pie biscuits that are perfect for a cozy fall breakfast. These biscuits are filled with diced apples, cinnamon, and a hint of brown sugar, then baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • ¾ cup buttermilk (plus more for brushing)
  • 1½ cups peeled and finely diced apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Optional Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 teaspoons milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar.
  3. Add Butter: Cut in the cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: Stir in buttermilk until a shaggy dough forms. Toss diced apples with cinnamon and brown sugar and fold into the dough.
  5. Shape and Bake: Pat dough into a rectangle, fold to create layers, cut biscuits, place on baking sheet, brush with buttermilk, and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Optional Glaze: If using, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, then drizzle over cooled biscuits.

Notes

  • Best served warm with a drizzle of glaze or butter.
  • Tart apples like Granny Smith can provide a nice contrast.
  • Honeycrisp apples can add extra sweetness.
