Ingredients
Blueberry Juice
- 16 ounces frozen blueberries, or 2 cups fresh blueberries or blueberry juice
- 1 cup water
- ¾ cup organic raw sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (reserved from total lemon juice)
Lemon Tea
- 6 cups green tea (or black tea as a substitute)
- 6 tea bags or 6 teaspoons loose tea leaves
- Remaining ½ cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed (about 4 lemons)
Instructions
- Make the blueberry juice: Combine the blueberries, water, raw sugar, and 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice in a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes to soften the berries and meld flavors.
- Extract the juice: Using a potato masher or an immersion blender, crush the blueberries thoroughly to release their juices. Strain the mixture through a sieve to remove the pulp, reserving the smooth juice and discarding the solids. Allow the blueberry juice to cool completely.
- Prepare the lemon tea: Boil water and pour over the tea bags or loose tea leaves. For green tea, ensure the water has cooled to between 170-180°F before steeping for 3 minutes for optimal flavor without bitterness. For black tea, use boiling water and steep for 5-7 minutes. Strain out the tea leaves and let the brewed tea cool to room temperature.
- Combine the ingredients: In a large pitcher, mix the cooled blueberry juice, brewed tea, and the remaining lemon juice. Stir well to blend all the flavors evenly.
- Chill and serve: Add ice cubes to the pitcher or refrigerate the mixture until thoroughly chilled. Serve cold and enjoy the revitalizing antioxidant-rich beverage.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen blueberries depending on availability; both work well for this recipe.
- Adjust the sugar amount to taste, especially if using sweeter blueberries or substituting with blueberry juice.
- Green tea is preferred for more antioxidants, but black tea can be used as a substitute.
- For a vegan and gluten-free drink, ensure sugar is organic and not processed with bone char.
- Serve this tea chilled for the best refreshing flavor, perfect for warm weather or as a healthy everyday drink.
