Description

This Amish Applesauce Cake is a delightful and moist dessert that brings together the warm flavors of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg with sweet applesauce. Perfect for any occasion, this old-fashioned cake is a true crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1½ teaspoons baking soda
    ½ teaspoon baking powder
    ½ teaspoon salt
    1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
    ½ teaspoon ground cloves
    ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients:

    ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
    1 cup granulated sugar
    ½ cup brown sugar, packed
    2 large eggs
    2 cups unsweetened applesauce
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-Ins:

1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
    1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare dry ingredients: Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in applesauce and vanilla extract.
  5. Combine and bake: Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in nuts and raisins if using. Pour batter into dish and bake for 35–40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool and serve: Let cool before serving. Optionally, top with powdered sugar or a glaze.

Notes

This cake tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld. Enjoy with cream cheese frosting or a warm caramel drizzle for added decadence.
