Ingredients
Sweet Potato Fries
- 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 pound)
Seasoning & Coating
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper for heat
Instructions
- Soak the Sweet Potatoes: Cut the sweet potatoes into fries and soak them in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch and ensure crispiness.
- Dry the Fries: Drain the soaked sweet potato fries and pat them thoroughly dry using paper towels to remove all moisture.
- Coat with Cornstarch: Place the dried fries in a large bowl, sprinkle with cornstarch, and toss thoroughly to coat each fry evenly.
- Add Oil and Seasonings: Add olive or avocado oil along with garlic powder, paprika, sea salt, black pepper, and optional cayenne pepper. Toss well to ensure all fries are well coated.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for optimal cooking temperature.
- Arrange Fries in Basket: Place the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd them to allow even air circulation.
- Cook the Fries: Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to promote even cooking and crispiness.
- Optional Extra Crispiness: If desired, cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to achieve extra crisp fries.
- Season and Serve: Remove fries from the air fryer and season with additional salt while hot for enhanced flavor. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Soaking sweet potatoes removes excess starch, leading to crisper fries.
- Be sure to dry fries thoroughly to avoid sogginess.
- Use cornstarch as a light coating to add extra crunch without deep frying.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure fries cook evenly.
- Adjust cooking time based on the thickness of your fries and air fryer model.
- Optional cayenne pepper adds a spicy kick; omit if you prefer mild fries.
- Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
