Description

These 30-Minute Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos combine tender teriyaki-marinated chicken with a crunchy coleslaw inside crispy baked wonton cups. Perfect as a flavorful appetizer or light meal, these tacos deliver a satisfying blend of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors topped with aromatic sesame seeds and fresh cilantro.

Ingredients

Chicken Marinade

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

Coleslaw

  • 2 cups coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrots)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil

Wonton Tacos

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine sliced chicken breast with teriyaki sauce, half of the sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Mix well and let it marinate for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat a pan over medium heat and cook the marinated chicken for 5 to 7 minutes, or until fully cooked and no longer pink inside. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Coleslaw: In a mixing bowl, toss the coleslaw mix with thinly sliced green onions, rice vinegar, honey, and the remaining sesame oil until well combined and evenly coated.
  4. Form and Bake Wonton Cups: Press each wonton wrapper firmly into the cups of a muffin tin to form taco shells. Bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until crisp and golden brown.
  5. Assemble the Tacos: Once the wonton cups have cooled slightly, fill each with a portion of cooked chicken and top with a generous helping of the prepared coleslaw.
  6. Finish and Garnish: Drizzle sweet chili sauce over each taco, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped cilantro for added flavor and a fresh finish. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Ensure the wonton wrappers are pressed tightly in the muffin tin to hold their shape during baking.
  • You can substitute teriyaki sauce with hoisin or soy-based sauce for a different flavor profile.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add a dash of sriracha or chili flakes to the chicken marinade.
  • These tacos are best enjoyed fresh to maintain the crispiness of the wonton cups.
  • Leftover chicken can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
